South Korea will launch pilot projects to test AI-powered smart city technologies in five Southeast Asian countries as part of its 2026 K-City Network program. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, aims to address urban challenges while supporting the global expansion of Korean technology firms. Six projects have been selected across the participating countries.
In Brunei, the focus will be on an AI-based platform for water management and disaster response, while the Philippines will implement a smart traffic signal system in Bacoor. Vietnam will introduce on-demand transport services in Ho Chi Minh City and deploy AI-driven intersection controls in Can Tho to improve traffic flow and efficiency.
Additional projects include a safety management system for aging buildings in Surin, Thailand, and an AI-based traffic monitoring system in Penang, Malaysia to detect accidents and congestion. Overall, the program is expected to demonstrate the effectiveness of Korean smart technologies abroad and create opportunities for future exports and investment.
