Romanian company Simtel has inaugurated a 52 MWp solar power plant in Giurgiu County, marking the country’s largest photovoltaic facility constructed on ecologically restored, previously degraded industrial land. According to Romanian media, the installation—built on more than 80 hectares of a former ash dump that also included an artificial lake—is expected to generate 70–73 GWh of electricity annually.

The project was fully developed by Simtel, from land acquisition to commissioning. It features over 85,000 solar panels, connected to the grid through six transformer stations and a new high-voltage substation.

Electricity produced will be sold under a 10-year PPA with G-Energy Solutions, a company majority-owned by Simtel. The investment was financed through a mix of bank loans and grants provided via Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Simtel is currently advancing several additional solar projects across the country, with a reported development pipeline exceeding 150 MWp.
