A London Underground station in northwest London had been suffering from flooding since the 1970s, and engineers were unable to find an effective solution. However, the situation changed thanks to five beavers that were released into Paradise Fields Park in Ealing in 2023.
The animals settled into the area and built a network of five dams. These structures, created by the rodents, slowed the flow of water downstream. As a result, excess water stopped flooding nearby residential homes and the neighboring Underground station.
⭐️ In addition to solving the flooding problem, the beavers addressed another issue as well. By slowing the river’s flow, they improved water quality, and fish returned to the waterway. The beaver population is also growing and now numbers at least eight animals.
A similar story took place in the Czech Republic last year. There, beavers built dams faster than government officials could complete their project—doing the job in just two nights—and saved the Czech budget approximately $1.2 million.
