From April 22 to 24, 2026, Astana hosts the Regional Environmental Summit 2026 . The event is organized by the government of Kazakhstan in cooperation with international partners and brings together experts, national leaders, and representatives of global organizations under the theme “A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future.” The program includes high-level plenary sessions and more than 20 thematic discussions focused on key environmental challenges in the region.
Among the expected participants are Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Emomali Rahmon, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh. Representatives from major international organizations also attend, including the United Nations, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, World Health Organization, World Meteorological Organization, and the International Telecommunication Union.
The summit focuses on pressing issues such as water scarcity, glacier melting, land degradation, and biodiversity loss. Participants will discuss ways to strengthen regional cooperation, attract climate financing, and enhance the resilience of energy, water, and food systems. Organizers believe the summit could become a permanent international platform for strategic dialogue and coordination on environmental and climate issues in Central Asia.
