Smart City Expo Doha 2025 Showcases AI-Driven Urban Transformation Across the Middle East

The fourth edition of Smart City Expo Doha 2025 concluded on 26 November after two days of in-depth discussions on how advanced digital technologies are reshaping urban life across the Middle East. Organized by Fira de Barcelona in partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the event placed a strong emphasis on the growing influence of artificial intelligence in mobility, urban planning, digital economies, and next-generation public services.

Held under the theme “Beyond connectivity: a digital solutions pathway to a smarter, thriving future,” the programme featured more than 30 international experts and several keynote sessions examining tech-driven urban design, AI-enabled innovation, national smart-city strategies, and the role of inclusive design in citymaking.

This year’s edition took place alongside MWC25 Doha—the first Mobile World Congress held in the MENA region—which brought together nearly 300 thought leaders and over 250 exhibitors, reinforcing Qatar’s growing position as a digital transformation hub.

Qatar’s own flagship urban developments were also highlighted as living examples of smart-city implementation. Lusail City continues to integrate real-time mobility management, connected services, and data-driven systems, while Msheireb Downtown Doha remains the country’s first fully built smart and sustainable district. These projects reflect national ambitions set out in Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030.

Discussions at the expo also spotlighted the evolution of the Smart Qatar – Tasmu programme, which is entering a new phase focused on launching more than 30 nationwide smart solutions over the next two years, expanding digital infrastructure, and strengthening AI applications to improve citizen-centric public services.

As Smart City Expo Doha prepares for its fifth edition on 28–29 April 2026, the event continues to underline Qatar’s ambition to lead sustainable, technology-enabled urban development across the Middle East.
