On April 22, people around the world will come together to celebrate World Earth Day 2025. It’s a moment to pause, reflect, and take action for the health of our planet. This year marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, and the message is more urgent than ever.
The theme for 2025 is “Our Power, Our Planet.” It’s a call to use our energy—both literal and collective—to push for clean, renewable solutions. The goal? Triple global clean electricity by 2030. But it’s also about smaller actions: community cleanups, local events, and spreading awareness where we live and work.
A new interactive map makes it easy to get involved. You can search for Earth Day events happening near you, or register your own. The map shows who’s participating, what’s planned, and how you can join.
Earth Day began in 1970, thanks to U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson and activist Denis Hayes. What started as a national movement has grown into a global campaign. Today, people in over 190 countries take part in thousands of events, big and small.
So what can you do? Educate. Plant something. Organize a cleanup. Share your message online. You can also read a Dialogue between the Philosopher Voltaire and Nature written in 1764. Even small steps matter when millions take them together. You can also find tools, quizzes, and action guides on the Earth Day website.
