The fifth annual Sustainability Summit Africa, hosted in partnership with Deloitte, will take place on 16 September 2025 in Johannesburg. The summit focuses on practical ESG solutions tailored to Africa’s unique environmental, social, and governance challenges under the theme “Global Goals, Local Impact.”
South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs, Bernice Swarts, who will open the summit, stressed the need for localized sustainability approaches: “It is critical that ESG approaches are grounded in the African context and designed for local challenges. Africa faces unique challenges and opportunities that require tailored approaches to sustainability, ensuring that strategies are relevant to our specific socio-economic, geopolitical, and environmental situations.”
Raksha Sunderlall, Sasol’s head advisor on sustainability and a keynote speaker at the event, highlighted the country’s energy transition priorities: “As we scale up renewables to meet national emission targets, we must consider how these transitions will shape jobs, economic development, and the future of our communities.”
With expert panels, case studies, and the Go Green Zone exhibition showcasing sustainable innovations, the summit offers vital insights for African businesses and policymakers aiming to embed sustainability in their strategies amid tightening ESG regulations.
