Free webinar to unpack Romania grid capacity auctions

Romania is preparing for one of the most significant shifts in its electricity market in recent years, with the introduction of competitive auctions for grid connection capacity from January 2026. To support market participants through this transition, a free webinar will take place on 18 December, organised by Invest In Network in partnership with Fiodorov and Partners as a lead-in to Energy Week Black Sea 2026.

The reform will see Romania move away from the long-standing first-come, first-served approach to grid connection and replace it with a competitive auction-based system. A transitional framework will apply until 31 March 2026, determining which projects remain under the existing regime and which will be required to participate in the new auction process. This interim period is expected to be critical for developers and investors currently active in the market.

The webinar aims to provide clear and practical guidance on how to navigate the new rules and the transition phase, helping stakeholders understand both the regulatory detail and the real-world implications for project development and financing.

Webinar details

The live online session will take place on 18 December from 11:00 to 12:00 CET and is free of charge. Registration is available here.

Expert speakers

The session will feature two experienced speakers offering both legal and commercial perspectives.

Tatiana Fiodorov, Managing Partner at Fiodorov and Partners, will outline the new legislative framework, including eligibility criteria, required documentation and the structure of the grid capacity allocation agreement. Her presentation will also cover key contractual clauses and obligations that market participants will need to consider under the new system.

Mats Lundin, Director Romania and Vice President Commercial at Emergy, will provide the developer perspective. Drawing on extensive international project development experience, he will explain how the four auction scenarios are likely to affect project timelines, bankability and investment decisions in practice.

Who should attend

The webinar is particularly relevant for renewable energy developers, investors, lenders, advisers and EPC contractors with existing or planned projects in Romania. It will also be of interest to participants preparing to attend Energy Week Black Sea, offering early insight into a regulatory change that will shape the Romanian power market for years to come.

The organisers say the session will help attendees better understand the risks and opportunities created by the auction model and how to position projects effectively ahead of the new regime.

Participants are also invited to continue the discussion in person at Energy Week Black Sea 2026, taking place on 4–5 February in Bucharest. Further information about the conference is available on the official event website.
